WE'RE GROWING!

Beginning in April 2009, we have accomplished remarkable things including but not limited to:

• In 2009, created a Volunteer Leadership Committee, which lead to the creation of our Garden Steering Committee

• Transformed nearly 15,000 sq ft of overgrown land into 20+ garden plots, plus shared gardens and sitting area

• Repaired existing chain-link fencing and added deer fencing in 2009; installed woodchuck fencing in 2010

• Secured over 20 gardeners from Armstrong Court & community to gard~n 100% of our available plots

• Secured countless volunteers for over 100 hours of garden work in 2009, and over 400 hours in 2010

• Built a Central Community Garden area (pergola with picnic tables and barbeque grills, teaching gardens, flower &

herb garden and pumpkin patch)

• Erected two garden sheds and filled them with tools; purchased wheel barrows and garden carts

• Beginning in February 2010, provided monthly "teach-ins" for gardeners by local organic gardening expertts)

• Cleared 500 feet of upper streambed and planted it with shrubs and perennials

• Partnered with Greenwich Hospital Center for Healthy Living to provide free healthy cooking classes for gardeners

WHAT WE HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE FUTURE

We intend to continue the following:

• To encourage gardeners to take leadership roles in the supervision & of the garden 

• Monthly visits from garden experts to help create new garden programs & to help oversee and maintain the garden and its surrounding area.

• To provide volunteers to maintain garden and streambed gardens

• To create a summer multi-cultural music series and partner with local restaurants

If we meet our goals, we believe we will be able to:

• Improve the quality of life for people in the garden and the community

• Provide a catalyst for neighborhood and community development

• Encourage Self-Reliance

• Beautify the Neighborhood

• Produce Nutritious Food & Family Food Budgets

• Create opportunity for recreation, exercise, therapy and education
